Snoop Dogg writing children's books?

While looking on the internet for news on children's books. I came across many articles saying the Snoop Dogg is writing his own series of books for children. http://au.launch.yahoo.com/080414/10/1p3dp.html I thought this was interesting due to his reputation and behavior so I decided to check out the link to his site promoting the book. http://allhiphop.com/ The website reads "The world's most dangerous site". I found it interesting that a website promoting children's books would have so much inappropriate material on there for young readers. I don't understand why he would correlate his other work (targeted for a mature audience) with children's material. I was just curious if these factors would affect any of your decisions to read/buy/provide such a book in your classroom.

Also, happy national library week Apr 13-19. --learn something new everyday

Snoop Dog also appeared on "Monk" recently. I wonder if he's trying to clean up his image?

I'll be curious to see his books. In general I'm suspicious of celebrity authors--are they published because they have connections and are marketable? Or because their books are of high quality? (Usually the former, in my opinion.)

I'm also curious to see how race and gender work in his books... (And hope that younger readers don't get drawn into his more adult content, a lot of which I find offensive.)

Snoop Dogg also has a reality tv show of just his life with his family and showing everyone his fatherly side. i haven't seen an episode of this show, but i do think he is trying to clean up his image and by having a reality tv show is the perfect way for him to show everyone that he is a loving father/husband and takes care of his family. Personally, i would not bring any of snoop dogg's childrens' books into my classroom, because i feel that he has targeted so much of the more mature audience, and bringing him into the classroom would be a very controversial thing to do and would probably spark up a lot of arguments from parents and others.
