Horton Hears a Who

A friend sent me this note in an email and I thought I would pass it on to you!

Peter Sagal (from Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me) has an interesting editorial criticizing Horton Hears a Who for being sexist.
I haven't seen the movie, but if his description is accurate, it sounds like he has a good point.

So I just followed the link that you posted and read the article and I must say that I kinda believe that the author was being a lil too critical of the movie. I personally have not seen the movie so maybe after actually viewing the movie my opinions will change, but as of now I believe that he dug too deep into the topic. Was the movie actually being sexist or was the boy just the main character? He explained how lovely and interesting the daughters were and how it seemed that the father already had established a relationship with them, is it sexist that he now turns all of his attention to his less lively son to build one with him? I do agree that there are some validity to some of the things the author claimed though that I never really took time to consider; a lot of main characters in children's literature and movies, that is the more popular ones, are usually boys. Still not sure if I am buying into this movie being sexist though...but as stated before I have not seen it or even read the book so that goes to the relevancy of my statements just thought I'd drop my views on the topic anyway.
