- Read Where the Wild Things Are. (I would suggest you read it several times. I usually do my first read "just for pleasure" and then do more careful reads.)
- If you don't know, check the list on Angel to see what letter you have been assigned. Then check the schedule to see what response role you will be taking on for the book.
- Refer to the syllabus for a description of your role and write a response. Those who are assigned artistic response need to create a response and write a paper. Those who are assigned intertextual response need to look for one or more other "texts" to bring to their reading of WtWTA.
- Submit your papers to the Angel dropbox by 6 pm the night BEFORE class meets. To clarify, you should upload your paper as an attachment. The attachment should be labeled according to the directions in the syllabus. Do NOT cut an paste your paper in the box!
- Bring a hard copy of your paper to class for reference and to give to your facilitator.
- Don't forget that you need to post or comment during the first 5 weeks of class!
Next week we'll share our responses in our small groups, debrief with the whole class, and watch a video that shows what literature circles might look like in the classroom.

Although we've been sneaking some discussion about teaching in here and there, your responses to "Where the Wild Things Are" should NOT talk about how you might teach the book or how kids might respond.
The purpose of the assignment is for you to respond to the text in different ways across the semester.
Just to clarify, the assignment response is due February 14?
No, section 001's response is due, electronically to the Angel dropbox, by 6 pm on Sunday, February 10. Section 003's response is due by 6 pm on Wednesday, February 13.
Additionally, you'll bring a hard copy (and the artistic product, if you are doing that response) to class the next day.
Two roles, facilitator and artistic response, will have a second paper to write for the following week.
I've just had another thought. For people in section 3, sometimes the following week's post is up before we meet (i.e. tomorrow we're meeting for session 4, but this is the session 5 post). Make sure you check your syllabus to see which session meets on which day!
To clarify: For the people assigned the artistic response, i should be turning in the short paper by 6pm the night before, and turning in the artistic product during the class session?
Yes, the paper is due the night before and then you bring a copy of your paper (for the facilitator) and your artistic creation to class.
